Glen Run Cemetery Dates Back to 1832
Glen Run cemetery and church began in 1832 when the church was built by a group of people from Hephzibah Baptist Church. The congregation eventually moved to Penningtonville (now Atglen) where they built a new church in 1858.
It was in 1886 that the Glen Run Cemetery Company was formed. A small group within the community, who were aware of the beautiful but abandoned location of Old Glen Run Baptist Cemetery, formed a stock company and purchased the old property and some additional land. The significance of the purchase was for the care and upkeep of a public interdenominational cemetery. In total, it has ten acres of land, half of which is laid out in burial plots.
Over the years, the vacated church building at Glen Run slowly deteriorated until it was taken down and the stones from its walls were sold. A chapel was built at the entrance to the cemetery in 1890. This building has been maintained and is still used for funeral services and special events.
